Chauffeur Permit Application

Instructions

  • If you do not have a federally compliant driver license (realID) from the state in which you currently reside, you must obtain an Alaska driver license prior to being issued a Chauffeur’s Permit.
  • Application must be filled out in full.
  • Attach a copy of your current driver history (past 3 years). If you are unable to obtain a driver history at the time of application, you may qualify for a one-time, 30-day, temporary permit.

Alaska driver histories must be obtained through the Alaska DMV website for a fee of $10. Driver histories from states other than Alaska, must be obtained in the states in which you have
held a driver license.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 consecutive years driving experience immediately preceding application.
  • Must not have been convicted of reckless driving, driving under the influence, or leaving the scene of an accident for the last 3 years.
  • Driver history must show that the applicant has been a safe and careful driver for a minimum of 3 consecutive years immediately preceding application.

If the applicant is denied, the Chief of Police shall state in writing to the applicant the reason for
denial. Denials are subject to the appeal and judicial review provisions set forth in Skagway
Municipal Code (SMC) 5.01.070 and 5.01.080.

No exceptions
